The Houdini of Serial Killers While awaiting trial in a Colorado jail, Ted Bundy pulled off his most audacious escape. Having lost 20 pounds, he squeezed through a light fixture hole in the ceiling of his cell. He crawled through the crawlspace, dropped into the jailer’s personal apartment while the man was out for the night, stole civilian clothes, and walked out the front door. He wasn't missed for 17 hours, giving him enough time to make it all the way to Florida, where he would eventually commit his final horrific crimes.
